The ELCA wanted a Christmas ornament gift that embodied its global mission. Each element of the nativity scene was created in the shape of a country. Shown above is Mary and the Christ child in the shape of Africa with Joseph looking on in the shape of Europe. One of the three kings encompasses South America.
