About the Mural

164′ x 24′ – Graphite drawing scanned and produced in Adobe Illustrator. Outputo to 4′ wallpaper.

This mural was very difficult since it centered on the creation story of Genesis as well as the Christmas story. The wellspring of images attempts to illustrate the creation of the heavens and the earth. I divided the animals into seven regions—from polar to desert. I used positive and negative spaces to incorporate as many animals as possible. The plants are significant with frankincense and myrrh trees that would yield gifts for the Christ child and later embalming elements upon his death. The banner is a celebration statement as well as hiding the nakedness of Adam and Eve as well as a path for the wise men to follow on their journey to Bethlehem.

This was perhaps the most difficult mural I’ve had the pleasure to design—combining the creation story and the Christmas story made for a wellspring of imagery.
